Research focusHow polymers take up and retain precursors during deposition and infiltration.

Research domain

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) and vapor phase infiltration (VPI) use sequential precursor exposures to modify materials. In the Lee Research Group, I study metal-oxide deposition and infiltration in polymers, including polyurethane.

I track mass changes across cycles and repeat runs to compare uptake and retention.

My role

I joined the group in August 2026. After training, I began operating ALD/VPI and in-situ quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) systems and repeating experiments to check reproducibility.

I write Python workflows to process QCM data, analyze kinetics, and compare mass changes across runs.

Methods and analysis

  • ALD / VPI: experimental deposition and infiltration work with polymer materials.
  • In-situ QCM: following the mass response during precursor exposure and subsequent process steps.
  • Python: processing QCM records and comparing uptake, retention, and cycle-resolved behavior.

Reproducibility and interpretation

I check whether mass changes are reproducible across runs. QCM measures mass response; it does not, by itself, establish material structure.
